Maintaining a Healthy Skin Barrier

Maintaining a Healthy Skin Barrier

The skin barrier, also known as the epidermis, is the topmost layer of our skin. It is made up of fatty acids, peptides, ceramides, collagen, and other nutrients. These components are referred to as the skin’s natural moisturizing factors as they help keep deeper layers of the skin hydrated and nourished. The skin barrier protects the skin and body from external stressors such as bacteria, pollution, and UV damage while preventing water loss to keep the skin hydrated.

Basically, a healthy skin barrier = happy skin.

Here are our tips for repairing and strengthening your skin barrier:

Look for the right ingredients: ingredients like ceramides, CICA, and niacinamide work to replenish and strengthen the skin barrier. Keep an eye out for antioxidants, such as vitamins C, E, and B, that help protect your skin against free radicals.

Use a gentle cleanser and exfoliator: over-cleansing can damage the lipid matrix of the skin barrier by stripping the skin of its natural oils, and over-exfoliating can damage healthy cells in our skin. Our Enzyme Cleansing Powder provides a deep, yet gentle exfoliating cleanse. It works to remove impurities while replenishing the skin barrier with papaya enzymes and antioxidants.

Moisturize daily: moisturizing helps keep the skin hydrated by limiting water loss, and often contain additional ingredients to repair the skin barrier. Our Moisture Lock Cream is packed with CICA, ceramides, and vitamins B3 and E to keep your skin happy and healthy. It is hydrating and protects your skin in all the ways it needs.

Sun protection: after using our Moisture Lock Cream in the morning, make sure to put on your favorite spf!
